USDA-ARS Tree Fruit Research Laboratory
The USDA-ARS Tree Fruit Research Laboratory was the first fruit research laboratory to be established in the heart of the apple producing country of North America. Their mission is to solve problems facing the U.S. tree fruit industry by conducting basic and applied research that is regional, national and international in scope which will ensure the long-term competitiveness of our fruit industry in domestic and international markets, and to do so in an environmentally responsible manner. They seek to develop new methods and technologies for the identification, detection, management, and control of pre- and postharvest pathogens, diseases, and disorders of tree fruit, including those that are currently controlled by use of methyl bromide as a pre-plant soil fumigant. To maintain competitiveness, they will develop new methods and technologies to maintain and enhance fruit quality during storage through fundamental studies of fruit physiological processes affecting storage quality, and will evaluate the application of these new technologies through applied research.

The mission of the Washington Apple Education Foundation is to coordinate, promote and develop educational opportunities on behalf of the Washington apple industry.
